Mix Zero

Base

Opus ZERO contains our own special craft cultured compost made of natural materials and brewed using time-honored techniques that take advantage of natural processes and reduce the need for fossil fuels.  This sensational compost blend is Opus’s own recipe - only found in a bag of Opus Grows® Natural & Organic Premium Growing Mix.

  • Ingredients
Key Ingredient – Wood Biochar is fine-grained unpainted, non-pressure treated wood charcoal high in organic carbon resistant to decomposition. Pre-Columbian Indians are believed to have used Biochar to make the poor soils of the rainforest – which otherwise quickly become exhausted – productive for harvest. Its porous nature makes it great at retaining water and nutrients and forming a habitat for beneficial soil microorganisms, promoting good soil fertility and plant health. We activate the Biochar and populate it with microorganisms before it’s added to the potting mix for an immediate benefit. See details on all ingredients in our Journal.
Full list: Organic compost, Wood Biochar, worm castings, fish bone meal, bat guano, feather meal, blood meal, alfalfa meal, shrimp meal, humic acid (derived from leonardite), basalt rock dust, and kelp meal. It also contains the non-plant food ingredients mycorrhizae. For best performance with maximum microbial activity, use within 2 years from the manufacturer’s stamped date on top of bag.
  • Directions For Use
Opus Grows is ready to go and super easy to use. Just add a little water and sunshine! After a few weeks of plant growth, it is best to add recommended nutrients for your particular plant's growth stage. Always follow the water, fertilizer, and light requirements of your individual plant, and make adjustments for your particular growing conditions and needs.
Got leftover Opus? Time to get creative. See what you can get growing! Top off a house plant or grab a container and some seeds and get going.
  • Third Party Growing Tests
Microbial Matrix Systems Inc. got our soil under the microscope to determine the impact of biochar on Opus Grows soil biology. By a process called epifluorescence microscopy (used to quantify the populations of beneficial bacteria and fungi, aka soil biology), they found that our compost activated with biochar has significantly improved microbial activity relative to compost without biochar. The active soil biology converts organic matter into nutrients needed for root development, plant growth & vigor, and fruit development.
